The Pittsford native became the youngest winner of the oldest junior event in North America on Friday. Thomson beat Blake Gerber 3 and 2 in the final match of the International Junior Masters at East Aurora Country Club southeast of Buffalo.
Thomson won the semifinal match in 19 holes. He trailed Gerber 1up after the 2nd hole, but won the 3rd and 4th to take a lead he would never relinquish. Thomson got up and down with a five-footer at 16 to seal the win.
The International Junior Masters was started in 1953 and is an event for 14-18 year olds. Thomson became the first ever 13-year old to win the event in its 62nd year. Gerber, the runner up, is a 17 year old from Mesa, Arizona who is entering his senior year of high school.
Thomson will begin 8th grade in September.
