Rhinos Play Scoreless Draw On Hall of Fame Night

The Rochester Rhinos played to a 0:0 draw with the Phoenix FC Wolves in front of 7,334 fans on Hall of Fame Night at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, New York on Saturday, June 29th, 2013.

At halftime, goalkeepers Scott Vallow and Billy Andracki along with midfielder Yari Allnut were all added to the Rhinos Hall of Fame. In addition, the 1999 US Open Cup champion team was honored. About a dozen members of that great Rhinos squad were at Sahlen's Stadium for the ceremony.
Rochester goalie Kristian Nicht kept his fifth clean sheet of the season, but Rochester could not find a goal to pull out the victory in its inaugural meeting with first year USL PRO club Phoenix FC. The draw on Saturday night was Rochester's fifth consecutive match without a loss, and the Rhinos are unbeaten in their last six matches in Sahlen's Stadium.
The Rhinos missed a chance their best chance of the match after forward Blake Brettschneider missed a header with the keeper beaten in the 35th minute. Rhinos left back Danny Earls and right winger JC Banks played a short corner kick in the left corner of the field before Brettschneider received a cross from Banks. He attempted to head the ball on goal, but it went over the crossbar. Brettschneider has had two goals and three assists during the Rhinos unbeaten streak in June, and he is the club's leading scorer with three goals and three assists for nine points.
In the second half Rhinos goalkeeper Kristian Nicht made four of his five saves to help earn Rochester a point.
Nicht denied the Wolves a chance for goal with a reaction save in the 59th minute of play. Phoenix'sAnthony Obodai had a point blank shot on goal from just inside the Rochester top left corner of the Rochester six yard box after receiving a cross from Wolves striker Thomas Ramos. Nicht dove to his right to make the save at the near post and parried the ball away before Rhinos right back Bilal Duckett was able to clear the ball safely.
Nicht made another pivotal save in the 81st minute to keep the match level when he came out of the goal and made a sliding save on a shot by Ramos. Phoenix FC caught the Rhinos on a counter attack, and played the ball over the top of the Rhinos back four to Ramos. Nicht came aggressively off of his goal line, and slide at the feet of Ramos as he dribbled the ball through the Rhinos penalty area toward the Rochester goal. Nicht was able to clear the ball to safety over the touch line for a Phoenix FC corner kick to end the threat.
Rochester remains in 10th place in the USL PRO standings, and is currently seven points behind the Pittsburgh Riverhounds for the final playoff spot. The Rochester Rhinos travel to Dayton to play the Dutch Lions on Thursday, July 4th 2013.
