Harrisburg manager Billy Becher made one change to his side that defeated the Colorado Rapids (MLS) Reserve team 2:1 on Saturday, April 20th in Dick's Sporting Goods Park as Tom Mellor replaced Morgan Langley in the midfield.
Rochester Rhinos head coach Jesse Myers was forced to make two changes to his side as veteran Greek center back Georgios Kyriazis and center midfielder Tyler Rosenlund both missed the match due to red card suspensions in the Rhinos 4:1 loss in Richmond on Saturday, April 20th. Fourth year center back Tyler Bellamy replaced Kyriazis in the back four, and Webster, New York native Michael Reidy made his first start for the Rhinos as a right midfielder.
In the 30th minute Ekra received the ball in the City Islanders half of the field, and he made a difficult turn on Rochester center midfielders Lance Rozeboom and Michael Tanke. Ekra accelerated into space and surged through the middle of the park as Harrisburg countered the Rhinos. Ekra put McLaughlin through on goal from the right flank. McLaughlin was able to dribble past Rhinos goalkeeper Kristian Nicht, and finish from a tight angle to give the home side a 1:0 lead.
Ten minutes later Rochester was reduced to ten men. Rhinos forward Blake Brettschneider was sent off by the head referee for serious foul play when he took down Touray in the 43rd minute. Players from both teams came together in the middle of the park, and words were exchanged before the referee showed Brettschneider the red card. Brettschneider was the third Rhino to be sent off in the past two matches.
Rochester scored the equalizer in the 62nd minute. Rhinos captain Troy Roberts served a free kick from the right flank to the left corner of the City Islander's penalty box. Rochester center back Tyler Bellamy won the header and played it across the goal mouth. Harrisburg could not get Bellamy's headed cross clear, and the ball found Reidy at the far post. Reidy could not get his effort on goal, but Duckett was there to finish with a header past City Islanders goalkeeper Nick Noble from inside the six-yard box.
Three minutes later the City Islanders scored the game-winning goal. After a corner kick Ekra got loose on the left flank, and he dribbled up the end line towards the Rhinos goal. Ekra played the ball across the Rochester goal mouth to the back post. The ball bounced off a City Islander and a Rhino before it ended up back on Ekra's foot inside the six yard box. Ekra finished to give Harrisburg a 2:1 lead in the 65th minute.
The City Islanders extended the lead to 3:1 in the 75th minute. Harrisburg left back Dan Anding ran forward against ten-man Rochester on a counter attack, and was able to slip a through ball to Mkosana on on left side of the Rhinos box. Mkosana took a touch and finished into the far upper right hand corner.
Touray scored for the City Islanders in the 80th minute when he was set loose with a through ball on the right flank that left him one-on-one with the Rhinos keeper. Touray finished from a tight angle to give the home side a 4:1 lead.
Mkosana scored the fifth goal for the City Islanders in stoppage time off an assist from Touray to give Harrisburg the 5:1 victory.
The Rochester Rhinos open their 18th home season on Saturday, May 4th at 7PM against Harrisburg City in Sahlen's Stadium.
