Wings Nipped By Indians

Brock Holt had three hits and three RBI, helping the Indianapolis Indians edge the Red Wings 4-3 Friday night at Frontier Field. The Wings open a two-game series here Saturday night against the Empire State Yankees, with fireworks after the game.

After a scoreless first inning from Rochester starter Liam Hendriks, the Indians combined a double, a walk, a fielder's choice and an error to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. After another walk, Brock Holt's home run into the right field bullpen extended the lead to 4-0.

The Red Wings countered against Chris Leroux in the bottom of the second, when Wilkin Ramirez scored from second base on a bloop single by Evan Bigley.

Rochester continued to chip away at the lead in the third inning when Chris Parmelee hit a solo home run that brought the score to 4-2. In the fourth, Clete Thomas led off with a single and then stole second.. Eduardo Escobar followed with a single through the hole in right allowing Thomas to score from second and cut the lead to one run.

In the fifth, Tsuyoshi Nishioka led off with his second hit of the ball game. Back-to-back walks to Parmelee and Ramirez loaded the bases with one out, but the Wings were unable to take advantage of the chance.

Leroux worked five innings, allowing eight hits, three earned runs, and two walks while striking out five.

Hendriks was replaced by Caleb Thielbar in the eighth after throwing seven innings with seven hits, four earned runs, three walks, and six strikeouts.

Theilbar pitched a scoreless eighth, and Kyle Waldrop pitched the ninth for the Red Wings.

Nishioka had four hits and Escobar had three hits for Rochester.
