Wings Handle PawSox

The Rochester Red Wings beat Pawtucket Saturday night by a final score of 5-1 in front of a crowd of 6,273 at McCoy Stadium.

Looking to win their second straight game, the PawSox sent lefty Chris Hernandez to the mound against All-Star Andrew Albers of Rochester.

The game was scoreless into the 4th when Doug Bernier and Chris Colabello delivered back to back doubles to give Rochester a 1-0 lead. After a ground out, Jeff Clement doubled to right to increase the lead to 2-0.

Andrew Albers had allowed just two base runners into the 5th, including nine straight. Justin Henry led off the 5th reaching second base on a two base error and came around to score around on a Ronald Bermudez double to cut the lead in half, 2-1.

Rochester got a lead-off single to start the 6th against Hernandez and, after a pair of outs, Chris Herrmann launched a two-run homer, his 2nd, to left field to increase the Red Wings lead to 4-1. Hernandez would be taken out after a hit batter and Clayton Mortensen came in and recorded a strike out to end the top of the 6th

Pawtucket mounted a threat in the 6th as Mark Hamilton singled and Alex Hassan doubled with one out, but a strike out and a Herrman diving catch in the outfield squelched the rally.

Red Wings starter Andrew Albers was very sharp tossing six innings allowing just an unearned run on five hits with a season high 10 strikeouts.

Ray Olmedo added a solo homer for Rochester in the top of the 9th against Jose De La Torre to make the score 5-1.

The series concludes Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm.
