The Huskies scored on its open drive to take an early 7-0 lead. Running back Jordan Todman scored the touchdown on a one-yard run up the middle, capping an 11-play, 80-yard drive.
Krautman cut the deficit, 7-3, with a 42-yard field goal with two seconds remaining in the opening quarter. Krautman's 14th-consecutive field goal of the season capped a nine-play, 55-yard drive for the Orange.
Connecticut closed the first quarter with a 35-yard kickoff return, but the Orange defense quickly halted the Huskies momentum, forcing them to a three-and-out on their ensuing drive.
With UConn driving on its second possession of the second quarter, Spruill infiltrated the backfield, notching a nine-yard tackle for loss on third and three. The tackle backed the visitors up to the Syracuse 31-yard line which prevented the Huskies from converting on a 49-yard field goal attempt.
The Huskies built its lead back to seven, 10-3, with a 35-yard field goal by Dave Teggart with 33 seconds remaining in the first half. The field goal capped an eight-play, 20-yard drive for Connecticut off of a Syracuse interception.
Syracuse scored first in the second half after Brandon Sharpe forced his first career fumble on a UConn punt return. Senior linebacker Derrell Smith recovered at the Connecticut 31-yard line with 10:21 left to play in the third quarter.The Orange capitalized on the turnover, trimming the lead to four, 10-6, on a 35-yard field goal by Krautman.
The Connecticut defense turned the tables with a sack fumble that gave their offense possession at the Syracuse four-yard line. The Huskies quickly capitalized with a two-yard rushing score by Jordan Todman to build its lead, 17-6, with 4:41 remaining in the third quarter.
A pair of fourth quarter field goals by Teggart, from 35-yards and 21-yards, built the Huskies lead to 23-6 with three minutes remaining in regulation.
Junior quarterback Ryan Nassib completed 20-of-36 pass attempts for 171 yards while junior wide receiver Marcus Sales led the Orange through the air for the second-consecutive game with six catches for 57 yards. Senior running back Delone Carter continued to climb the career rushing yards list, leading the team with 67 yards rushing on 19 carries.
Senior cornerback Mike Holmes and senior linebacker Doug Hogue led the Orange defensively with eight tackles each, including six solo stops. Hogue also logged a tackle for a loss of yards and forced a fumble while freshman linebacker Marquis Spruill set a career-high with two tackles for a loss of nine yards.
