Syracuse holds off Pittsburgh for first ACC win

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - SYRACUSE 27.......PITTSBURGH 24......


Game Recap:

For the first time since 2012 Syracuse knocked off ACC rival Pittsburgh 27-24.

Syracuse trailed 10-3 with 34 seconds to play in the first half, when junior quarterback Eric Dungey found Devin C. Butler on a 32-yard touchdown to tie the game at 10.

With seven minutes to play in the third, Dungey scampered in from 10 yards out to give SU a 17-13 lead over Pitt.

The Panthers would pull to within 20-16 in the 4th, when Dungey connected with Steve Ishmael for a 35-yard touchdown.

Pittsburgh's Qadree Ollison answered with a 19-yard run, as the Panthers added the two-point conversion to trim the SU lead to 27-24.

With under 30 seconds to play, Syracuse junior linebacker Ryan Guthrie sacked Pitt quarterback Ben Dinucci to seal the SU win.

Side Notes:

Syracuse Junior quarterback Eric Dungey finished the day 33-49 for 365 yards and two touchdowns.  Dungey also added 48 yards on the ground and a touchdown.

Steve Ishmael finished the day with 5 catches, for 97 yards and a touchdown.

SU senior linebacker Parris Bennett led the Orange defense with a game-high 14 tackles.

Dino Babers is now 37-0 as a head coach when leading after 3 quarters.
