Superstar Stewart leaves McQuaid for prep school

Section Five likely knew this day was coming. It was only a matter of when.

Superstar basketball junior Isaiah Stewart is leaving McQuaid and transferring to La Lumiere Prep school in Indiana.

Stewart has already received over a dozen scholarship offers from Division I schools such as Georgetown, Indiana and Maryland. Jim Boeheim and Syracuse are also hot on his trail.

There was a hope Stewart would play one more season in Rochester, but his talent warranted and maybe even required better competition at some point. It was always a matter of this year or next.

Stewart told News 8's Dan Fetes he was "excited" to make the move late Saturday night. He'll be on a plane to Indiana Sunday morning.

He's the second Rochester star to leave Section Five for a prep school this month. Jeenathan Williams took the step up from UPrep a couple weeks ago.

There were six Rochester born Division I basketball players last season and Thomas Bryant became the first Rochestarian drafted by the NBA in over 20 years in June.

"Rochester is on the move," Stewart said.

As expected, so is he.
