Jim Scorse wins RDGA District Championship in playoff

Beats Jeff March on 3rd playoff hole

PITTSFORD - The rise of Rochester's prolific young golfers doesn't matter to Jim Scorse. The 52-year old Stafford Country Club member outlasted Jeff March in a playoff on Saturday at Locust Hill Country Club to claim his 5th RDGA District Championship.

March came into the day with a 1-stroke lead, but was unable to gain any distance on the field. He was inches from an eagle on 17 that likely would have sealed the tournament, but his putt ran agonizingly wide right.

His 1-shot lead evaporated on the 18th hole when March put his approach shot in the right-side bunker while Scorse found himself two feet from the cup. Scorse finished his birdie while March converted an up-and-down for par to force a playoff.

Both men finished deadlocked after two playoff holes before the third playoff hole returned to the 18th. March again missed the green on his approach, but this time he placed it in the rough slightly beyond the green. His chip sailed over the green, leaving Scorse with a 2-putt to win the tournament.
