Drumgoole leads Irondequoit to state final

Eagles use third quarter run to beat Buddy Boeheim and J-D

Binghamton, NY -

Gerald Drumgoole scored 23 points as Irondequoit rallied in the second half to beat Jamesville-DeWitt 68-56 in the Class A state semifinals Saturday morning in Binghamton.

Irondequoit ran off 12 points in a row during the third quarter to turn a seven point deficit into a five point lead heading to the fourth.

J-D hung in the first couple minutes, but the Eagles' lead was never lower than five points the final five minutes.

Buddy Boeheim, the son of Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim, led all scorers with 25 points.

It was the Irondequoit offense that turned the game. The Eagles scored more than half their points (35) in the final 12-plus minutes of the game.

"Last night at the hotel everyone is running around their rooms, our guys are in their rooms. They've handled themselves really well," head coach Chris Cardon said. "I told them this was not a class trip. This was a special time. We're on a mission. We want you to have fun and enjoy each other, but were here for a reason."

Zach Stenglein added 19 points for Irondequoit and Tysean Sizer finished with 13.

Irondequoit moves on to Sunday's title game against Lourdes from Long Island's Section I.

Tip time in Binghamton is scheduled for Noon.

"We're going to get excited when we win tomorrow," Stenglein said. "We wanted to be there tomorrow and that's our goal. This was a step in getting there but its not our end goal."
