Waterloo Pulls Away Late For Title

Chelsea Steinruck scored 18 points as (2)Waterloo fought off (4)Midlakes for a 48-38 win in the Class B1 championship at Rush-Henrietta High School Saturday afternoon. 

Steinruck was named tourny MVP. Lindsay Johnson backed her up with nine points while Angie Davis had eight. 

Allie Clements led Midlakes with 12 points. The Screaming Eagles had a one point halftime lead, but the Indians scored the first six points in the second half and ten of the first 13 to go on top 29-24. 

Midlakes got within a point early in the 4th quarter and a layup by Emily Vanderhoof made the deficit 33-31 with just over four minutes to play. However, Waterloo scored the next nine points in a row to put the game away. Steinruck capped the run with a three-point play. 

Waterloo moves on to Tuesday's state play-in game against Bishop Kearney. The Kings routed Batavia Notre Dame 55-31 on Saturday. The game is 6pm at Canandaigua Academy.
