Victor Strikes Back to Top Lancaster

Fresh off a fourth straight Section V title, the Victor baseball team rallied from an early deficit to top Lancaster 8-3 at Colburn Park in Newark in the Western, NY Class AA regional.

Victor shortstop Dale Wickham plans on attending Cornell University in the fall to study economics. His stat line at the plate is pretty easy to compute. The senior went 4-for-4 with 3 runs batted in. In the Section V final last weekend, Wickham was 4-for-4 with 9 runs batted in.

Lancaster struck first in the top of the first. They grabbed two more in the top of the fourth before Victor came alive.

The Blue Devils loaded the bases with a single, walk, and single. A bases loaded walk brought in their first run. Jake Redding reached on an infield single that drove in a run to make it 3-2 Lancaster.

A sacrifice fly knocked by Joe Carrier even the score at 3 before Wickham lined an RBI single to left field to make it 4-3 Victor. One more bases loaded walk gave the Blue Devils a 5-3 lead and they never looked back.

Victor scored three more runs in the fifth inning. The Blue Devils will play the winner of the West Islip/Massapequa state regional next Saturday, June 14th at 10am from Maine-Endwell High School.
