Victor Blanks Shen to Claim 3rd State Title

The senior class on the Victor baseball team began with a state title and ended with a state title.

The Blue Devils blanked Shenendehowa (II) 3-0 in the Class AA state final on Saturday at Maine-Endwell High School. Victor now has two state titles in four years (2011).

Victor's starting pitcher Dale Wickham once again mowed down opposing batters right from the get go. The senior finished with a complete game shutout and gave up only 5 hits on 72 pitches.

The runs started for Victor in the fourth inning. Mike Wagner roped a double into the right field corner that scored Wickham. The next batter, Brett Prong, doubled to the gap in left-center, scoring Wagner to make it 2-0.

Wickham gave himself an insurance run with a double to left-center in the 7th inning that scored Jake Redding.

Victor has now won three state titles in baseball. Their first title came in 2004. Sean Rucker has been the team's manager for all three titles.
