McQuaid, Sutherland Advance To State Baseball Semis

McQuaid scored three runs in the sixth on a two-run error and a sac fly to beat Clarence 3-1 in the Class AA State Baseball Quarterfinals Monday night at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia.

Sutherland advanced in the Class A quarters, knocking off Albion 6-2 in a game played at Buffalo's Coca-Cola Park.

Wellsville fell in Class B 2-1 against Tonawanda, surrendering runs on an error and sac fly.

Asa Johnson allowed only four hits and at one point retired 17 in a row, but he allowed three runs in the 7th as Cal-Mum was eliminated 3-0 by Frewsburg at Class C.
