Arcadia/Olympia held off Gates-Chili 14-9 at Aquinas Institute in the season opener for both teams Monday night.

Gates-Chili trailed 7-4 at the half, but Matt Miller scored off a rebound in the third quarter to pull the Spartans within 7-6.

The Lightning answered on a rebound goal of their own from Colby Habermacher, who also drew a penalty on the play. Arcadia/Olympia converted on the man-up thanks to a Bryan Collister laser from the top of the box. Gates did not get within a goal after that.

Nick Serio led the Lightning with four goals and two assists. Collister and Tyler Dalle each scored three goals.

Joseph O'Hare had five goals to pace the Spartans.
