Houghton Beats RCMCS for title

Derek Brooks scored 38 points to lead (7)Houghton to the Class D2 sectional title with a 75-55 win over (8)Rochester Career Mentoring Charter School at Blue Cross Arena Saturday afternoon. Brooks was named tournament MVP. 

Colin Poorman added 18 for Houghton, who outscored RCMCS by 16 points over the second and third quarters. 

Amos Williams led RCMCS with 14 points while Cory Green scored 13 and Rashim Peterson finished with ten points. RCMCS went only 4-7 in the regular season, but beat the 9th, 1st and 5th seeded teams to make the finals. 

Houghton moves on to Tuesday's Class D state qualifier against Batavia Notre Dame. The Irish dispatched Jasper-Troupsburg 62-37 on Saturday. Game time is 7pm with the site to be determined.
