Geneva Comes Back To Beat Batavia In OT

Carmen Sapp put back a miss with a minute to play in overtime and (3)Geneva held on to beat (2)Batavia 51-48 in the Class A2 semifinals at Pittsford Mendon Monday night. 

Sapp scored on the possession before to cut the Batavia lead to 48-47. The Blue Devils took a four-point lead early in overtime and Tiara Filbert hit a runner to put Batavia up 48-45 with just under two minutes to play. 

Erin Guinan had to make a pair of free throws with ten seconds left to force overtime for Geneva. Guinan led the Panthers with 13 points. Janee Joyner added 12 points and eight rebounds. Sapp scored only five points, but all of them came in the OT.

Batavia had to rally from a 23-12 halftime deficit and did so behind Filbert, who had a monster game with 30 points. The Blue Devils held Geneva to only three third quarter points and had the lead down to two heading to the final period. They went on top in the fourth before Guinan's heroics forced an extra four minutes. 

Geneva moves on to face (5)Wayne in Friday's sectional final. The Eagles powered past (1)Eastridge 89-59 in a surprising romp. Tip time for the final is 5pm with the game site to be determined.
