Samatha Heiler scored 13 points, including four three pointers that all went down in the second half. The Spartans led 19-16 after a tight first half, but exploded in the second half. Gates scored 35 points themselves in the third and fourth quarter, matching the total by both teams in the first half.
The Spartans also avenged one of their worst losses of the season. On December 28th, Rush-Henrietta beat Gates-Chili 58-30 at R-H. This game was much different. Gates led from the start and was up 11 points after three quarters. The Comets opened the fourth quarter on a 9-1 run to close within 34-31, but the Spartans ran off the next eight points to put it away.
Dana Watts led the Comets with 12 points and Sara Sweazy added 11.
Gates-Chili will now get a long break. Their next game will be Saturday, March 8th at FLCC against the Class AA winner from Buffalo's Section VI. The winner of that game goes to the state final four.
