Stevie Johnson was in the stands at the Kentucky-Vanderbilt men's basketball game today and delivered the strongest indication yet that fans in the stands at Ralph Wilson Stadium will be seeing Stevie in a Bills uniform this fall.
Johnson spoke with FOXSports.com at halftime of the basketball game. "Progress was made," Johnson said of his agent's conversations with the Bills this week. "Hopefully, everything comes together within a week or so.
"It is my preference to stay in Buffalo. It's just about where I began in the NFL. I want to end there. It's a tough road; we haven't been to the playoffs in a long time and I want to be a part of it when it happens."
"I don't want to leave," Johnson said. "I want to finish what we started. Hopefully things come together and we connect on this contract."
There have been rumors the Bills may use the franchise tag on Johnson to keep him in Buffalo for at least 2012. Johnson doesn't know how serious the team may be considering that plan.
"They know and I know the franchise tag is always in their back pocket," he said. "Would I like it? Yes and no because it's only one year. I want a long-term contract and want to know that I'm going to be around."
