Jeff Tuel and Graham were two of ten players released by the Bills on Saturday. The team had to be down to 53 players on the roster by 4pm.
Tuel surprisingly made the roster in 2013 and would have started the season opener had EJ Manuel not made it back from a knee injury. However, he underwhelmed at camp this year just like Thad Lewis and was sent packing a few days after Lewis was also released.
Graham was one of many small, speedy WRs the Bills have acquired the last few years, but never produced enough to become a consistent contributor. When the Bills traded for Mike Williams and drafted Sammy Watkins, it was clear someone would be squeezed out at the position. Marcus Easley is a special teams star and likely made the team thanks to that advantage.
Also cut Saturday was reserve offensive lineman Doug Legursky. He was part of the Bills revolving door at left guard in 2013 without distinguishing himself. He likely lost the battle for the final O-line spot to Kraig Urbik.
The Bills officially announced the signing of backup QB Kyle Orton on Saturday and added a punter. Colton Schmidt spent the preseason with the 49ers. He punted seven times for a net average of 46 yards. Schmidt was in camp with the Niners and Browns last season, but did not latch on and was unemployed until signing a future contract in San Francisco back in January.
Here is the complete list of Bills cuts for Saturday. The team can begin signing players to the practice squad on Sunday.
