Amerks Smack Utica for 7 Goals

With Sabres GM Tim Murray in attendance, the Amerks gave him something to smile about as they trounced Utica 7-3 in front of 4,609 at Blue Cross Arena on Friday night.

The Amerks lit the lamp four times in the second period and finished the night with four power play goals.

Jamie Tardif scored the game's opening goal with a power play tally at 10:23 of the 1st period off a deflection from a Chad Ruhwedel shot from the boards. The Amerks carried the 1-0 lead into the lockerroom after the opening period despite being outshot 13-6.

Tardif scored the Amerks first goal of the 2nd period. Similarly to his first goal, he tipped in a Ruhwedel shot on the power play. Tardif's second goal came at 5:23 of the period.

Only 62 seconds later, the Amerks scored again. This time, Rasmus Ristolainen scored his first of two goals on a blast just inside the blue line.

At 8:39 of the period, Rochester capped a 3-goals-in-3-minute run when Tim Schaller flew in alone off a Freddy Roy pass and beat Joacim Eriksson for his 3rd goal of the season.

The Amerks were not in the period, getting a power play goal from All-Star Brayden McNabb from the slot that made it 5-0. Tardif assisted the goal for his 3rd point of the night.

Utica goalie Joacim Eriksson was finished after the 2nd period. In total, he gave up 5 goals on 15 shots. Joe Cannata took his place. The former Merrimack goaltender let in two goals on eight shots in the 3rd period.

The Amerks' two goals in the third period came from Luke Adam and Rasmus Ristolainen.

The Amerks and Comets meet again on Saturday night in Utica. The game is slated for a 7:00 start at the Utica Auditorium.
