The Lincoln School principal was nominated for a News 8 Golden Apple Aware by the entire Lincoln School family.
"I'm honored and privileged," he said. "You know I get to wake up every morning and do something I love; and it's a special place, this Lincoln School."
Mr. Hemelinck knows what it's like for students at Lincoln School in Newark. He grew up in this same school and after years of hard work, he is now living a dream working here.
"As some people know around the area, this was my school. It's quite a special place to me. It continues to be a special place to me and I'm sure it always will; and what make it is the people," he said.
"It's always is this the best for the kids," Jeff's mentor Christine Mizro said. "That's his motto and that's what he's lived by. He values education. he's worked to get his own education and he instills that in the kids."
"Jeff is one of those people whose compassion for students and kids is unparalleled, literacy coach Robin Uveges said. "He is an amazing leader, an amazing person and anyone is better off for having worked with him."
Below you will find the letter sent in recommending Mr. Hemelinck for the Golden Apple Award.
