Scholastic Arts Spotlight: Matthew Kemp

- Matthew Kemp has star power and the staying power to achieve his dream.

Matt is a junior at Fairport High School. He is currently rehearsing for his role at Emmet in the musical "Legally Blonde." Last summer, Matt was one of just 32 students across the state to earn admission to the New York Summer School of the Arts. He is natural leader at school in the teen program for the town of Perinton and on stage.

"I like to captivate people's attention and I love to make people laugh and make people cry.  There's something about it, the feeling and rush of it, it's great," he said.

"We've cast him in a few shows, cast in several shows but Matt stands out, he's had a lot of positive interactions, he works hard to get off the book very quickly and I'm very proud of him," Fairport drama teacher Mark Northrup said.

This talented young actor plans to study the arts in college, and then he is bound for the Big Apple.

"New York City; that's where I really want to be. That's where I think I belong," he said.

Matt Kemp is one to watch-a performer with the chops to go all the way.
