Scholastic Arts Spotlight: Julia Maddalina

- Julia Maddalina has been drawing ever since she could hold a pencil. Over the past decade, she has slowly commanded her own audience with her portfolio of portraits. She loves figurework.
Julia says, "They say that eyes are the windows to the soul and I believe that wholeheartedly, and I think it's a wonderful beautiful thing when you can capture that and evoke it through a piece of art."
Julia uses charcoal and oil paint. She's studied with the best artists in Rochester. She's the youngest member of the Rochester Art Club and routinely wins kudos for her portraiture, including the Rochester Art Supply Award.
Fairport Art Teacher Laurie Warnett says, "She's a wonderful human being inside and out, super humble and more talented than anyone I've every seen in my 15 years of teaching."
In 2011, Julia drew a portrait of American Idol contestant Lauren Alaina. Alaina's family was so impressed, they flew her to Tennessee to present the drawing to Alaina on stage.
Julia has been awarded a full scholarship to the Cleveland Institute of Art. It's one more testament to her incredible talent and promising future in the arts.
