Roc Well Report: Strong West Surgeries

- Brockport, NY (WROC)-  For the first time in over a year, surgical services are returning to Brockport.  "We've kind of been ready all this time and now we can get to doing what we all love doing and that's taking care of surgical patients," said Kathaleen Adamczyk, Clinical Director of the Strong West Ambulatory Surgical Center.

Next week, Strong West will begin performing minor surgeries.  UR Medicine opened the center after Lakeside Memorial Hospital closed in 2013.  Unlike Lakeside, which as a hospital performed in patient and out patient surgeries, Strong West will exclusively do same day surgeries.  "We'll be doing orthopedic, general, some urology, a lot of ophthalmology out here.  And then, we're planning on ramping up with some other surgeries," said Kathaleen.  She added they'll continue to expand services as needs arise, and they'll be equipped.
Strong west has three operating rooms and 15 pre and post operation beds for patients.  The surgical center is actually where Lakeside's birthing center and operating rooms used to be.  Adamczyk says Lakeside's closure created a gap for countless patients and surgeons alike, "The university saw that need.  It was loud and clear from the community that they needed to have the services that were close by."

Beginning Tuesday, they will, with some familiar faces.  Seven out of the eighteen employees at Strong West's surgical center are former Lakeside workers.
