Rochester, N.Y. - Some would say another Governor's Cup championship title has been a long time coming for the Rochester Red Wings.
"The last time we won was 1997, which was the first year we opened Frontier Field," says General Manager Dan Mason. "So if it seems like it was a long time ago, it was."
A great grand-opening to Rochester's new baseball stadium.
"It was a magical year and so I figured it's going to be like this all the time here at Frontier Field," recalls Mason. "This house is good luck."
But since then, we've been in a playoff drought, with a lot of changes to the team.
"A lot of different guys have come and gone, differet managers, different players...
a lot of rain outs, and a lot more gray hair from me," says Mason.
Fast forward to last night. It had been 7 years since fans had been able to watch playoff baseball at this stadium. Dan Mason says it's us - the fans - who can help propel the team to another victory"
"We need to be loud," says Mason. "Our fans gotta get crazy like we did last night. I think if we pitch well and play great defense..."
...Then maybe, just maybe we'll get to see a big celebration again.
Win or lose, all those extra gray hairs Mason claims the team has given him, are worth it.
"For me it's really a dream come true to work for my hometown team, the team that I grew up going to see at Silver Stadium, I have so many great memories," says Mason.
And he hopes to provide those same great memories to a new generation.
