Today in Rochester, and around the world, it's Orange Day. It's a 24-hour period dedicated to ending violence against women and girls. Local swimmers are commemorating orange day today by making a splash. The "swimmin' for women" event is taking place at the Webster Aquatic Center and raises money and awareness. Annie Lane, of Swimmin' for Women USA, said, ""People should come out today to honor someone they love who has been affected by abuse. This year we've engaged the SUNY Brockport swim team. Alana Blasting was on the swim team with Alexandra Kogut who was a student at SUNY at Brockport who was murdered by her boyfriend."
Swimmin' for women takes place four times throughout the year. The next event is October 9th. All the proceeds raised by Swimmin' for Women USA will fund college campus and community based prevention education programs.
