A summer music series kicked off in Martin Luther King Park Saturday.

The Roc The Park Urban Music Festival is a partnership between the City of Rochester and local music sponsors. It's a three-event showcase of local music. All musicians playing the festival are from the Rochester or Buffalo area. Organizers say the first show is a wild success,"We're trying to do something to uplift the community," Khadija Yawn said. "We're trying to bring the community together in a positive manner and we want to showcase that Rochester can come together and have a good time," exclaimed Yawn.

"This is what we want to see in our city, people having a great time, showcasing our local talent, and showing that we really are a city of the arts," City of Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren said.

Saturday's event was a spotlight on neo-soul music. Roc The Park continues August 22nd with local motown music and September 6th with local gospel music.
