The new facility will allow for 24 hour emergency care to its patients. That service had been missing from the area since Lakeside Hospital closed last year in the spring.
UR Medicine will run the new off-campus emergency department. The around the clock care is expected to provide plenty of benefits.
"We'll have imaging, or radiology, available 24 hours a day as well our ED pharmacy, and laboratory service," explained URMC's Michael Kamali. "There will be a physician and nurses there... Patients who are sick, or are in need of services, can come here any hour of the day and be taken care of."
Strong West Emergency will also save patients critical time when they are being transported to the ER.
