You're listening to the solo that Gwen Healy will play for the judges in the New York State School Music Association. Gwen's artistry has already earned her spots in all state bands and orchestras. It's earned her first chair in the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. "Music is a really unifying thing," she says. "It brings people together, it unifies people. In RPYO I've built life-long relationships with people and that's really important. And it's all because of music."
This Honeoye Central School Junior is absolutely dedicated to the performing arts. She's a standout in school choirs, musicals, and the marching band. "She sings at community events, she sings the national anthem at sporting events, plays at local nursing homes and all those wonderful things, in addition to her serious study as an oboist," says Grace Wood, Honeoye Central School Music Chair and Band Director.
Thanks to her work with the RPYO, Gwen has already played at Carnegie Hall. She counts that as her proudest musical achievement - but with her talent, it's likely the first of many more to come.
