First and second graders from School #17 in Rochester got to spend their morning with horses.  It was part of a summer program where kids rode, groomed and bonded with therapy horses.

The Summer Leap Program is a new initiative at Allendale Columbia.  Organizers say working with animals will help the students learn new skills.  Amy Rudich, the Program Director, said, "We are not only focused on the academics, but we want to make sure our students are prepared for the coming school year and we also want to promote empathy, cultural community an d social understanding.  One of the best ways to do that is working with animals."

More than 20 students participated in the horse-centric summer program.
