The City of Rochester celebrated Arbor Day with a ceremonial tree planting in Mount Hope Cemetery.

City officials and spectators gathered to plant a dawn redwood near the historic cemetery chapel.

That type of tree is endangered, and the cemetery's manager says it will be a beautiful addition to the scenery.

"If you ever walk through in the fall you'll see all the beautiful colors we have in the foliage, and it's a beautiful setting," cemetery manager Jeffery Simmons said. "I always say it's an outside museum."

Today's tree planting raised awareness for the city's "Reforest Mount Hope Cemetery" initiative to raise $70,000 for new trees.
