Rochester, NY (WROC)-  The school year hasn't started yet, but already Rochester schools are trying to make sure attendance is up.  Today volunteers visited the homes of kids who have missed several school days in previous school years.  While at the houses, they gave out packets of information on when school starts, and how to get school supplies.

"There's a lot of research to show that students who miss a lot of school, particularly in the younger years, are at a high risk of dropping out, and being a part of the criminal justice system later in their life," said Chuck Allan, representing RCSD in student outreach.

Volunteers visited 130 students today.  September 3rd is the first day of school.
