By AMY YOUNG | email@example.com
Steady rain didn't dampen spirits at a fundraiser in Yates County. Two months after flash floods ripped through Penn Yan dozens of people are still displaced.
Music filled the streets of a community that has seen its share of tough times.
"Support the local product and help rebuild this neighborhood," said Dan Borrello, organizer.
Dollars donated today from the pockets of some of those who took the hardest punches from this spring's devastating rains.
"It shows the resolve of some of the people. That they are sitting through this because their putting the money back into their own community. And other people from outside the community. And all of the bands who are even from outside this area are coming in. Hey what can we do to help?" said Borrello.
Elm Street in Penn Yan, once littered with debris washed up in the rains, held court to three stages. People dancing in the streets with hope for brighter days ahead.
"We want to do whatever we can for the community. Ya know it's where we've all grown up. Gone to school. Born and raised. You got to come out and support your people, ya know," said David Early, Penn Yan.
The floods caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage dozens are still displaced.
"The people of Penn Yan raised thousands of dollars today to give back to the community. They hope to make this an annual event to continue to give back, next year," Amy Young, reporting.
