Monroe county has a new plan to deal with algae at Ontario Beach Park.  The algae traps bacteria and creates a smelly mess, causing the beach to close for swimming.  The county is using a $400,000 dollar state grant to take a number of steps to improve water quality.  County Executive Maggie Brooks said, ""The improvements include a suction in take sleeve and discharge pipe built right into the structure of the pier...that work should take 4 weeks to install both those mechanisms."

The pier and swimming area will be open to the public during construction unless otherwise noted.
