Farmington, NY (WROC) - Some hometown heroes are being honored this weekend in Farmington.  It's all because of the newly formed organization called "The Vietnam War Commemorative Committee."  The committee began in March when the Farmington town historian heard about the national organization, the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration.
Donna Hill-Herendeen decided to apply to Washington D.C. to be a commemorative partner.  Her application was accepted, and she quickly sprung into action to start work on the committee's first event.  This sunday, the organization is honoring more than 173 Vietnam vets in the community.

"We're having it at Farmington Park, County Route 8, at noon," explained said Hill-Herendeen.  She mentioned that there will be a "a formal tribute to the vets, with speakers."  After the ceremony, refreshments will also be served.

The association hopes to be part of the national organization for years to come.
