She was honored in New York City for her lessons on the September 11th terrorist attacks.
The 9/11 Tribute Center celebrated her work at a ceremony in March.
McGinn began the day by asking her 7th and 8th grade students to write what they know about September 11th, 2001.
Most of her students were so young at the time of the attacks, they don't fully understand the significance.
McGinn showed the class a bulletin board with pictures of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Then the class gets to read about the attacks.
McGinn says at first the answers are basic, but at the end of the lesson her students understand this important day in american history.
This day has a personal attachment for McGinn, she worked at the World Trade Center in 1980.
