The Girl Scouts of Western New York are encouraging their girls to pursue careers in science.

Three hundred Girl Scouts participated in "STEM-A-Palooza" at the Rochester Museum and Science Center on Saturday. The event encourages young girls to consider jobs in science, technology, engineering and math. A recent study showed that 74% of teens have an interest in these fields but won't pursue them for various reasons. Leaders believe talking to kids at a young age helps a great deal.

"We want girls to continue to raise their hands in class and not to play themselves down if they are smart and enjoy science," WNY Girl Scouts CEO Cindy Odom said. "The career is there for them."

The girls also got a chance to participate in a number of math and science based activities.
