"Very surprising. I would never have guessed. My daughter came down and told me, Mom, do you know what's going on outside, and I didn't," said resident Sue Gutknecht.
Police received a 911 call from a man inside a home on Pinegrove Avenue. He was upset over a personal problem, and that's when police responded.
"It took us a period of time in order to communicate with the individual, as a result of utilizing the telephone. Once we communicated with the individual, he followed all of the instructions provided to him by the response team," said Irondequoit Police Chief Richard Tantalo.
Police successfully talked the man out. They are investigating whether he was armed.
"Any situation has the potential to to be serious. However, as a result of the exceptional work that the officers did from the Irondequoit Police Department, the neighborhood was safe. The integrity of the perimeter was established. The cooperation of the neighbors helped us tremendously during this investigation," added Tantalo.
Neighbors knew little about what was going on, but are happy with the ending.
"I'm glad to hear that everything came out good. I really am. Police did a tremendous job," added Albert.
The man was transported to a medical center for both a physical and mental evaluation.
