Former Greece Soccer Coach's Bid For Re-hiring Denied by School Board
Not once but twice. The Greece School Board voted again tonight NOT to rehire Bill Hueber as the Athena soccer coach. Three other assistant coaches also walked off the job.Greece Athena's varsity soccer team lost its coaching staff tonight."The motion to reappoint Coach Hueber fails."In a 5 to 4 vote, the board said "no" to rehiring long-time coach Bill Hueber for a 13th season."Terrible. You should be ashamed of yourselves."Earlier this month, the board also voted against Hueber. The first "no" vote caused quite a community uproar. Parents, teachers and coaches throughout the community rallied behind Hueber. Tonight another blow."I'm extremely disappointed in the outcome of this vote to be honest with you. Cause I truly believe that I've done nothing wrong as a coach. This was a couple of board members who had a personal vendetta against me. And that's the way they want to play it. That's not right to the kids. That's not right to me either. And I've given 25 years of my life to this district."Three assistant soccer coaches threw in the towel shortly after the vote. As a show of support for Hueber they quit."I will stay with Bill. We're a team. We work together. We've had a great coaching staff. the kids are loosing a great coaching staff. we wish them nothing but the best. But I will go where Bill goes."
