Congresswoman Louise Slaughter presented the medals to her today at the Federal Building on State Street.
Edward Frindel served as a soldier in World War II. He enlisted in May 1942 and was honorably discharged in September 1945, rising to the rank of Sergeant. while in the army his occupational specialty was Radio Operator. He was also a certified parachutist. In addition to his continental service, SGT Frindel parachuted into Normandy with the 82nd Airborne during the Allied invasion of Europe. During the invasion, he was wounded and held captive by hostile forces in Cherbourg, France. Here, he became an asset to Allied intelligence and participated in the Allies' liberation of the city.
