Tornadoes have wrecked havoc across the United States and Saturday, the American Red Cross conducted a disaster drill to prepare people for severe weather.

Volunteers in Rochester responded to a mock tornado drill to test the organization's response. Red Cross officials set up a disaster operation center to resond to a mock tornado that caused fatalities, power outages and road closures in the Village of Savona. Red Cross officials say preparation is crucial.

"You should always take time to have a plan put together, an emergency kit in case you have to evacuate immediately and always have food, water and any important papers," Red Cross Chief Communications Officer Jay Bonafede said.

Bonafede says if a tornado or a severe ice storm were to hit the Rochester area, the Red Cross will be ready to support the community.
