The Seneca Nation has purchased land in Henrietta, meaning the idea of a casino in Monroe County could be one step closer to becoming a reality.

In a statement, the Senecas announced their purchase of 32 acres on Clay Road, between I-390 and East Henrietta Road. The Senecas have been pushing for the building of a casino in Monroe County, believing it will boost the economy and create jobs. But many local residents, particularly within the town of Henrietta, are against the idea. News 8 has reached out to Henrietta Town Supervisor Jack Moore to find out if the Senecas have submitted a formal proposal. He has not yet returned our call. We are continuing to follow this story and we will bring you the latest information as it becomes available.
