Rochester, NY-- A Rochester Police officer is recovering in the hospital after police say his police car was struck by a drunk driver.
Police said the cars collided at the intersection of University Avenue and Prince Street around 2:30 Friday morning. The police car was traveling west on University Avenue and had the right of way, when a civilian car traveling south on Prince Street failed to stop for the flashing red light, and the two cars collided at the intersection. The police car then left the roadway and collided with a nearby tree. The driver of the car was not injured. However, the police officer sustained some injuries and was transported by Rural Metro Ambulance to a local hospital where he is currently being treated. The civilian driver is being cited for the red light violation and DWI.
