Jim Kelly's wife Jill posted an update on his battle with cancer Wednesday, including a photo of the Hall of Famer embracing his father Joe. With it she wrote "there's been a lot that has been said so we though it would be best to clarify. At this point and time surgery is not the best option for Jim." Given the aggressive and complex nature of Kelly's oral cancer, the plan of action has shifted. Instead of surgery, doctors will now try radiation and chemotherapy. According to Dr. Peter Costantino, who is heading up Kelly's medical team at Lennox Hill Hospital in New York, the aim is to control the Hall of Famer's pain and hopefully eradicate the cancer. Last summer, Kelly talked about the challenges of cancer.
The doctor says Kelly's cancer is treatable and potentially curable.
