William De Blasio became New York City's 109th mayor just after midnight. He is the first mayoral change in the last 12 years. De Blasio, surrounded by his family and close friends, took the oath of office outside his home in Brooklyn despite temperatures in the 20s. The swearing in was officiated by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. A more formal inauguration will happen at noon on New Year's Day at City Hall. Former President Bill Clinton will officiate at the ceremony.
