A New York State Trooper was killed in an accident on the Thruway late Monday night. David Cunliff was doing a traffic stop when he was hit by a tractor trailer that veered onto the shoulder. The 35-year-old trooper was a nine year veteran of the State Police. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured. State Police have already said that neither alcohol nor weather appear to have played a role in the crash, but did indicate the driver had a number of logbook violations, including one within the past week. Cunliff is survived by his wife and two sons.
A blind man and his seeing eye dog fell in front of an arriving Subway train in Harlem Tuesday, but both are fine. Riders on the platform screamed as the train bore down on 60-year-old Cecil Williams and his black lab, Orlando. Luckily, Williams only suffered cuts and bruises. Authorities say the motorman saw the two on the tracks in front of him and activated the emergency brakes to slow the train.
