New Local Mental Health Service Initiative

- Rochester, NY (WROC) - There's a new approach to improving mental health services in the Rochester region.

The Greater Rochester Health Foundation formed the "Commission on Children's Behavioral Health in the Finger Lakes."   The commission will look at policies and practices involved in mental health treatment for children.  Former Mayor Tom Richards and former Rochester Business Alliance President Sandy Parker are serving as co-chairs.

"It is a tough issue, quite frankly, because it is heartbreaking to see the way in which people are caught in this, and unable to free themselves," said co-chair Richards.

The commission received input from area childcare providers, schools, and pediatricians about the need for better services.  It will release a report in November.
