Rochester, New York - Monroe County will no longer have to spend thousands of dollars on new fire hydrants. After feeling the heat from New York Senator Chuck Schumer, the EPA backed off of its rule that would require lead free hydrants. Schumer had argued that no one drinks enough water from them and it was an unnecessary expense on taxpayers. This decision will save the county over $400,000.
