Lovely Warren Submits Petitions

- Lovely Warren has submitted petitions to be on the Democratic primary ballot for mayor. The primary is on September 10.

The Board of Elections will now verify those petitions.

The City Council president submitted more than 6,000 petitions. She needed 1,000 signatures to get on the ballot. Anyone who wants to challenge the petitions has until Monday. Warren said she wanted to prove to area Democrats that the mayoral race is not over, even without the party's designation.

"It's a statement that this race is not over as people have tried to indicate and is totally winnable on our side," she said.

Her opponent, current Mayor Tom Richards, received the endorsement of the Rochester Building and Trades Council on the Midtown Plaza site. Warren has criticized Richards, saying not enough minorities have worked on the project. The Trades Council says more minority and female workers are on the Midtown project than any other in the city's history.

Richards is the Democratic party's designated candidate. He has already secured the Independence and Working Families lines on the November ballot.
